GREYMOUTH, January 14

Liverpool State mine is idle to-day, men objecting to the management putting in curve rails in a pillar lift instead of flat sheet iron.

VIOLIN FIND

HAMILTON, January 14

Following what is said to he a genuine Stnulivarius violin, was discovered at Wellington, a farmer near Hamilton. Mr C. V. Carryer states lie lias in his posession a .similar instrument. It hears a faded label with the same words as the Wellington discovery, “Antonins Stradivanus (.(reman cm it is ®ftciebat,” and following that the words “Anno 1795 or 1735.” These figures are very blurred. Carryer’ s grandfather bought the violin in a second hand shop at Aucklari many years go. When the find was referred to a. dealer in violins at Hamilton, he said such finds had to be viewed carefully. He had come across many similar instruments .hearing the same labels, probably made i n Bavaria.

HEAT WAV!

HAMILTON. January 14

Hamilton has sweltered with a heat wave for the past month. The maximum was refolded yesterday of 93 degrees. On eight orations the thoi-o-meter has exceeded 90 degrees. The position is becoming critical for farmers. The pastures need rain urgently.
