BOYS SHOPLIFTING

HAMILTON, January 12. Five boys whose aged range from twelve to fourteen years, pleaded guilty in the Children’s Court to-day to charges of shoplifting in Hamilton. All the lads came from respectable homes. The offences, which extended over the past three months, consisted of the thelt of watches, torches, knives, balls, ate. The Magistrate, in severely admonishing and discharging the offenders, indicated that a repetition of the offences would not be viewed so leniently-
LABOUR CANDIDATES,
CHRISTCHURCH, January 12
Nominations of more candidates than are necessary to fill the City Council ticket of sixteen have been received by the Labour Representation Committee, and a selection ballot will probably have to be held. Nominations will close on Tuesday and consideration will he given to them at a meeting of the committee on Thursday. So far as is known, all the present councillors are being nominated.
CRUISER’S CRUISE. AUCKLAND, January 12.
The cruiser, Dunedin, under an altered itinerary, Will exercise in, Hauraki Gulf from January 28th to February 4th, sailing for Gisborne on, February 6th. She is due at Wellington on February 14th, sails on February 18th for Queen Charlotte Sound with Wellington and Canterbury Reservists on a training cruise until February 20th. She will then visit Lyttleton, Akaroa, Dunedin and West Coast sounds.
EMPIRE ATR MAIL
AUCKLAND, January 13
The Dominion section of the third Empire air mail, which left England on December 22, and failed to reach Sydney before the Monowai sailed on January 4, arrived in Auckland by the Mariposa on Saturday morning. The mail consisted of 1727 packets and letters, and included a bag of correspondence for the Duke of Gloucester and tli i Royal staff.
