SYDNEY, January 13,

At the swimming contests, the 220 yards international invitation backstroke race was easily won by the Japanese, Kiyokawa, in the Australian record time of 2.41. Great interest was taken in the appearance of Charlton in a 440 yards inter-club handicap. Charlton, who recently resumed training, after retirement, brilliantly won. the /event, in which he conceded 28sec to some of the competitors.

MELBOURNE, January 13

The Victorian 440 yards free style swimming championship resulted:—G. Vockler ftime, smin 25 l-ssec) 1; A. Crawford (5.451 2: A. King (5.47) 3. Crawford was the holder of the title.
