At the Lindbergh baby murder trial Doctor Condon stepped down from the witness stand after undergoing an eight-hours’ examination. His story was not shaken in any important detail, despite continuous efforts of the defence counsel to discredit him in various ways.

Colonel Brookenbridge, Lindbergh’s persona] attorney, was the next witness. He testified that all through the ransom negotiations, Doctor Condon had insisted that the filty thousand dollars should be paid to the kidnappers only alter they had ddivel- - the baby satoly in bis hands. He (Brookenbridge) and Lindbergh had overruled Condon in this, and they had insisted that no trap should he laid, holding that their duty to the State was nullified by a “superior duty to recover the child.” It was by f' l the worst day that the defence has had so fa>'.
