The Main Highways Board has prohibited the practices of sk.-mg an tobogganing on the roads at Arthur s Pass and Otira. It is stated by motorists that after use for toboggans and skis the roads assume a highly polished surface, which is almost impassable for motor traffic, and a complaint was lodged with the board recently by the Grevmouth branch of the _ Canterbury Automobile Association. The Highways Board has the. power to prohibit any practice which is liable to make the roads unsafe for traffic. Most skiers at Arthur Pass, especially the more experienced, go to the better fields, higher up, for their sport- but the road lias been used fairly freely for tobogganing.
