A cheering crowd of thousands made the welcome a warm one when Miss Jean Batten arrived at the United Service Hotel this morning from the Wigrani Aerodrome. When the Mayoi of Christchurch (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.), called for three cheers for ‘‘New Zealand’s heroine,” there could be no doubt left by the response'as to the esteem and admiration which Miss Batten’s feat has evoked. Replying to the welcome extended by the Mayor (Mr D. G.' Sullivan) Miss Batten who was received with lend cheers said: — “l want to thank all the people of Christchurch for the enthusiastic reception that has been accorded me here. Your wire was one of the first 1 opened when I arrived in Sydney. I hope that I have done something' for New Zealand. Now' I am here I see that people are very airminded. I hope that I have done something to strengthen the great bond of friendship between England, Australia and New Zealand; particularly between Australia and New Zealand.
