LONDON, May 5. Leicester County won the toss, .and elected to bat in their match against the Australians. Play started an hour late, owing to heavy rain.

The Australians omitted from their team the following: Woodfull, Wall, -Grimmett, Oldfield and Chipperfield.

Bradman captained the Australians for the first time. Rain twice interrupted the play before lunch, when Dawson and Shipman had put o n 39 runs. The greasy ball m'ade the bowlvis task <a. difficult cne, but O’Reilly, flighting the ball cleverly kept the batsmen suddued.

Four thousand people were present after lunch, and they saw O’Reilly, in the first over, bowl Dawson and Armstrong with successive balls. The total then was 2 for 45.

O’Reilly, keeping a perfect length, soon had Shipman, who had shaped nicely, caught at silly mid-on. O’Reilly continued to intimidate the batsmen, he again getting two wickets with successive deliveries, those of Hazelrigg and Weston. Then O'Reilly confidently appealed leg before agjainst Haddington on his next ball, but he failed to achieve the hat trick. O’Reilly had now taken 5 wickets for 23 runs, and the total was 5 for od. Tiie next two overs yielded two more victims to O’Reilly. The batsmen, 'obviously knew little about ins intentions.

Then, having bowled unchanged for two hours, O’Reilly was taken off at 124. McCabe and Fleetwood-Smitli shared tne last three wickekts. Leicester’s innings occupied 190 minutes and realised 152 runs. O’Reilly’s bowling was relally great, lunch. . Brown and Ponsford. opened quietly for Australia, but with the total at j i2, ponsford went leg before. | Biadman now came in. PRESS COMMENT ON LARWOOD,

(Received this day at 10.45 a.m.)

LONDON, May 5.

Critics ‘are divined in opinions about Larwood. Quite a number contend he has not regained his old pace, though his action is faultless. “Reynolds News,” says the wicket was all against him. He took his usual nineteen pace run, and his terrific follow-through, which throws all his weight on his damaged left foot, was in full use. He had not his old pace because he needs time to get right hack to form. Likewise he wants a firmer foothold yet. BROMLEY INDISPOSED. (Received this day at 9.55 a.m.) LONDON, May 6. Bromley is suffering from a slight attack of influenza, and will not bat against Leicester to-morrow.
