CANADIAN DEBT
FACTORS AGAINST CONVERSION

OTTAWA, March 20
The Prime Minister, Mr Bennett, t°ld the Canadian House of Commons on Monday night that two factors stand in the way of a general conversion of the Dominion’s bonds. First, the wartime tax-free bonds must be redeemed, and sec ondly, the 1250 thousand dollars a week deficits of the Canadian National Railways must cease. The Prime Minister said th a t it would be national suicide for Canada, a young country awaiting development, to repudiate or to default on its bonded indebtedness.
