MURDERER’S LIFE IS -SAVED PRESERVED FOR LEGAL DEATH. CHICAGO', March 14. Four surgeons of Michigan City worked without ceasing for 20 hours to save the life of Harley Edwards, convicted of murder, in order to give tho prison authorities a chance to execute him legally. Edwards was to be sent to the electric chair early. Fie had smashed his spectacles and gashed his wrists with a broken lens. Guards found him near de'ath from loss of bloodThen began the long fight to keep him alive for electrocution. Two blood transfusions revived him, and he was partly conscious when the guards carried him into the death chamber. One shock sufficed to extinguish the feeble spark of life.
