(Per Pre S s Association, Copyright)

INVERCARGILL, November 9

The winner of £3OOO in consultation on the Melbourne Cup is George Gray, slaughterman .at Makarewa freezing works. When asked by the manager how he was going to celebrate, Mr Gray replied: “Can I have the day off to go fishing?” The surprised manager gave him leave, and Gray’s luck still held for ho landed one of the finest trout ever taken from the Makarewa River. It weighed 81-lbs., and was in great condition. It is no exaggeration to say that he is the most unconcerned man in the whole district over his good fortune.
