CHRISTCHURCH, November 9.

At a conference the delegates of South Island Counties to-night received .a proposal to form a South Island .branch of the New Zealand Counties’ Association. The proposal Was overwhelmingly defeated, after considerubh' discussion, most of the delegates considering the formaton of such a body would lead to the introduction of the North versus South issue, which was undesirable, and that the present system adequately met South Island requirements. A motion was carried recommending the executive of the Association to suggest to the .affiliated counties that groups according to highways districts be formed to discuss matters of /mutual interest and to formulate remits thereon.
