BRITISH ATHLETE
VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND
HIGH PRAISE, FOR LOVELOCK
AUCKLAND, October 10
A well-nown English athlete, Mr Ean S. Drew, of Manchester, who represented England in the recent international athletic contests against France, arrived at Auckland by the Mariposa yesterday. Mr Drew was one of. the English competitors in the one mile steeplechase ,and during the month he proposes to spend in New Zealand lie hopes to have the opportunity of participating in ' some distance running. “Every athlete in the Brtisli Empire must regard the mile record established by J. E. Lovelock with the greatest admiration,.” Mr Drew said yesterday. “I was specially gratified to hear of it, for I have met Lovelock frequently during recent months and have raced against him on several occasion. I set a pace for him in a. race at the White City, London, last year when he was beaten by Cornes, the other Oxford distance runner. New Zealanders have every reason to feel proud of him.” ; Mr Drew, who is representing a large cotton manufacturing firm on hi.s trip, will-spend about a week in Auckland before visiting the cthey maip centres. . e
