New Zealanders ,-Wtio hoped benefit from the trust fund of £11,968 created by William Stopey, of Birmingham, will lie disappointed, as the English Courts have declared the gift 4° be invalid. The . following cablegram from London appeared in the New Zealand newspapers in Aprd last year: William Stonev, who died on January 14, left £ll/968, the whole ,of which lie bequeathed to the Public Trustee of New Zealand to assist poor migrant* from Warwickshire and surrounding counties, at the trustees’ dic-retion. Following .this, the. Court in England ruled the gift was not valid, and the will therefore had no effect, the conditions making it impossible to give effect to the gift.
