Quick thought of a Post and Telegraph offitvsr, and smart vjovk by four- police officers were responsible last evening for tho arrest of three men who, it is alleged, had broken into Supply Stores, Ltd., at the corner of Colombo and Lawson Streets, .Sydenham.

Tho men wore found inside ' the premises but they made a. fight for it, and batons had to he need. Warned by a postal officer living opposite of seeing lights in the store tho police 'officers entered quietly. They came on three men in the darkness, ancl took them completely by surprise.

Two of the men made an attempt to escape but they were tackled by the policemen, and for a few minutes there was a ..regular “Pennybrook.” Tile police were compelled to draw their batons, and in a- few minutes the three men were under arrest, GISBORNE. (May 25.

A series of burglaries and thefts during the past montli was cleared up at the police court this morning, wTien 'Edward Ernest Welsh, 23. p-e'iue.u guilty to six charges of breaking, entering and theft, for theft and two of unlawful convers_'o, n of bicycles. A c c uspd who was recently from Borstal was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on the burglary charges and sentenced to two months' gaol on each of the others, the terms to be concurrent.
