WELLINGTON, May 24
Further particulars in regard to the burglary at Bowman's tobacconists’ shop, show that three men broke m and that a quantity of cigarettes, tobacco and other goods valued at. aboiu £7O, were taken. The men gained an entrance through a back door, leading to a right of way. But for the timely arrival of the night watchman, M. Jurriss, the thieves would have made a bigger haul, for in their hurry to escape, they left two bags containing goods, at the back of the shop. Two, of the men, one of whom had an iron,, bar, attempted to assault Jurriss, but he warded them off and they escaped to Boulcott Street, where apparently a car was parked. The other men rushed to the front of the shop and escaped that way.. Some of the money taken was being held in trust.
