A. seven-seater motor car driven by Mir W. F. Harley, on. Monday evening, collided with a stationary railway engine on the Upper Mawher.q, Quay crossing, Grevmouth. As visibility was bad at the time, the car was. .not travelling fast, and only slight damage was don e to the lamps and mudguards of the car.

The Grey “Star” states that- two local residents who have a gold claim on the hills at the back of Karoro. made a disheartening discovery a few days ago. For about ten weeks they had worked hard 'at the claim, and the black-sand, which accumulated, was packed away in benzine tins in a small whare. When they went to wash up the result of their labours, they found that someone had removed the black-sand, and filled the tin 6 with tailings.
At the weekly meeting of the West Coast ‘Rugby Union held last, evening the application of the Kumar a Club for the re-classification of J. Inglis from senior to junior was granted. It wia,s resolved Jo support the Nelson Union’s representations for' a visit of a •Maori representative team to the Seddon .Shield districts later in the season. Throe applications for re-admission to the code were ordered to be forwarded to tb e New Zealand Union with a favourable recommendation.

Last fweek, freight hau’-ed through the Otira tunnel amounted to 10,683 tons, compared with 10,396 tons in the corresponding week of 1932, and 13,427 ton s m 1931.
