LORD BLEDISLOE’S THANKS
AUCKLAND, May 20.
“On ' this,'iny first opportunity 1 sime my return from the Islands cruise, 1 wish to thank most cordially all those who, from different parts of the Dominion, nave contributed to the special relief fund which Her Excellency and I inaugurated prior to setting oat on the cruise,’’ said the Governor-General, Lord Bleclisloe, speaking at a, community singing gathering held last evening in aid of the Metropolitan Unemployment Relief Fund.
“Although the contributions being received by the fund itself are not as greas as might have perhaps been expected, nevertheless, reports received ‘tom all over New Zealand show that the appeal has been answered partly by greatly increased gifts to local organisations. I should like to say that 1 contributions, in kind particularly, uil( be most acceptable, especially in the next six weeks or two months, when there is no doubt there will be considerable distress and impoverishment.”
