The co-dperatjon of the police and the South Taranaki Auto Association, resulted in the smart recovery yesterday evening of a car taken from Haw era, which wa« parked in a street. It .was reported missing at 10.40 p.m. A broadcast was arranged by the secretary of the Automobile Association at 10.50. Ten, minutes later advice was. received that the car had been found abandoned .at Wanganui.
Early this morning the Wanganui police advised that two men engaged, a taxi to proceed to Rawer.a. A watch was kept at a bridge south of Hawera with the result that the travellers by the taxi, named Oswald Roy Witlcocks an.! lan .Frederick .Kirk were arrested. . They. were Mhavgs<] .’later;- (be., fore Justices with converting to -their own use a, car valued at £975. They werfe. remanded on hail at £SO each.
