Mr J. Mason who has been a member of the staff of the local poss om— > * the past four years r has‘been transferred on prQmotion, . to Geraldine. He left last Tuesday morning to take up hie work at that office.

On belinlf of the Ros, s residents he asked his acceptance of a presentation travelling '*ug as a email token of their appreciation, and wished him every success in his new locale. • Mr I). P. O’Donnell (Postmaster), reoretted'losing the services of such an efficient officer as Mr Mason had proved to he. he felt sure if he -continued as he had done in the past, he would make good urogress and soon occupy a higher position in the service. A (number of other, speakers spoke in a similar .ctraim expressing their high opinions of their popular rme s t. : Mr Mason feelingly replied thanking all-his—frieu.ds for their kind remarks, and he especially thanked his Postmaster for assistance he had given him. The .singing of “For -he’s a Jolly G°od Fellow” brought the gathering to a close. J
SUCCESSFUL BALL. The ball which took plaice, in the Totara Hall last Wednesday evening proved an immense success. The bachelors and spinsters had the hall in perfect order, the decorations were more lavish than usual, the floor had received special treatment a’s o . and am excellent supper was provided. A large number were present from all parts of the district and thoroughly proved themselves to the music supplied by the Boss Orchestra.
FOOTBALL
The Ross juniors met the. Excelsior juniors on the Ross Recreation Ground on Saturday and after a; good hard game the local team proved the ..winner by 17 points to 5. For the Roes team tries were scored •bv P. Parker (2), E. Allan, C. Wilson, and A .AT a son. Parker converted one. F. Richards scored and converted -for the visiting team. J. McCleary acte<i as referee.
The Ross juniors have done exceptionally well in the four games they have played, the scores being 19 to 3, 28 to 3. 9 to nil and 17 to 5. - The senloiyj "are to be congratulated on their twin ngrinst the E v "elsir>m in Hokitika on -Saturday.. With continued practice they should give a good account of themselves by the end of the season.
ACCIDENT TO TRAIN
