AN EARLY NELSON .PIONEER

'MR HENRY HAMMOND, AGED 92

The death is (announced of Mr Henry Hammond, of Fairhall, aged 93 years, one of the original Nelson pioneers. 'He reached Nelson with hU parents in the ship, Lord Auckland, in February, 1842, and spent, his boyhood in Nelson. He took up' land in. Marlborough in 1870, and was a very widely respected resident. » The death occurred at Waikawa, Piston, of Archdeacon Harold Edward Ensor, formerly Archdeacon of Akaroa, and before that in charge of several cures in Canterbury. He had been a complete invalid since 1909. He is survived by a widow, and one son, Edward Ensor of Rvdall Downs, Canterbury, and two daughters, Mrs Reginald Pearcy of Grove, and Mrs O. L. Wilson, the Vicarage, Soutlibridge, Canterbury.
