UNSEEMLY DISPLAY AT GOLF
FINAL
LONDON, May 12
There was an unsportsmanlike demonstration at the close of.the Southport golf competition. Cotton at the last green needed a five-yard putt to equal the lead of Davies, who was two and three to play. Cotton surveyed the line carefully, and when, he missed some spectators laughed aloud and cheered.
“Very funny, isn’t it,” retorted Cotton as he left the- green. Afterwards he said: “I did not deserve to win, finishing with two fives, but I have done nothing- to deserve that unkind demonstration.”’
The youngsters failed in the critical final round. They were eclipsed by forty-cne-year-old Davies. E. Whitcombe equalled the record with 68. Cotton, twice a winner, -was- an amazing failure and played his worst golf of the match, disappointing his 5000 followers. Davies won with .293. Other scores were:—Cotton- 294, E. Whit combe 291, iXplan 294, C. Whitcombe 295, Mitchell 295., Hodson 295, Easterbrok 296, Perry 298, Havers 293, Alliss 298, R, Whitcombe 299., - ..
