FATAL FIRE
WOMAN TRAPPED IN WASHHOUSE EXPIRES AFTER RESCUE. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 10. A fatal lire occurred at the residence of JTr M. J. Gresson, a well-known so.icitor, in Eendiilton Hoad, this morning, when his wife was trapped in a burning washhouse. She received severe burns and died a Jew minute, s alter being rescued by her daugncei., The late All's Qresson, who was aged 40 years, was a sister of Dr. Hamilton Gould, and a member of a well-known Canterbury family. She had been m poor health for a number of years, and apparently went into the washhouse to attend to a lire in the cop<
per. The first person to discover the washhouse was afire was Miss Bridget Gres son, who dashed in among The thick smoke and found her' mother, her clothes in flames, lying on the floor. She dragged her mother out and extinguished the flames but Alls Gresson died a few minutes later. ■' f Air Gres'soii, then on his way''to office •at 9.15 a.m., was* recalled to the scene ' The fire brigade prevented the flames from spreading to the house, a large two, storeyed building. - '. ’■-'Alls Gresson was a niece of.
