EDUCATION BOARD CAMPAIGN
HOKITIKA D.H.S. RECTOR’S URGE-
Consideration of the “Back-to-School”. campaign, being undertaken by the Canterbury Education Board, was given by the Hokitika District High School Committee at it s meeting last evening when a circular from the Board (referred to in to-day’s kub-le&der) .was s placed before the memberis'. [ “This is a matter of 'vital concern,’ 1 ,-oi-i tM Rector (vi r J. ‘L. Menzies), “affecting not only the children, but the parents, and the nation a 5 a wh°le. If evPr there were a time when boys and girls should .be kept at school it is now. The avenue s of employment open to the pupils to-day are few, and I submit that the children should remain at school until Something offer?. If <?o they will be improving ' their chances for the future, in that they will still be learning, and will still be under discipline, whereas jf they were to leave thJey would come under tho, influence of the street, which is nil.”
He urged that parents give the matter their earnest attention. The circulars under consideration would be di.dribu'dd to .the parents 'and he desired that they come to a decision regarding their children a® sb°n as po csible that he might forward particulars before the end of the year.
