QUESTION OF CLOSER UNITY, (Per Press Association — Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 21. A conference of union executive members, convened by the Canterbury Industrial Association of Workers for the purpose of discussing the necessity for closer unity, met under the chair- ' manship of Mr John Rigg. Twenty seven organisations were represented. The following motion was carried: “‘That this meeting is of the opinion that one industrial council is the desire of the industrial unions in the Canterbury district and recommends that such a council be established. That body should incorporate the functions of the Canterbury Industrial Association of Workers and the Canterbury Trades and Lobour Council on the lines recommended by the open industrial conference which was held in Wellington last March.” A committee of fourteen was set up to ascertain the of the different unions when the recommendations have been . discussed. This committee will make its report to a further meting of executive members to be held on December 4. A resolution was unanimously carried pledging support to the Freezing Workers’ Union in its we'cnt struggle.
