TRYING TO REDUCE EXPENDITURE

WELLINGTON, November 2
It is understood that a* determined effort will be made by the Unemploy-
ment'Board to reduce -its expenurcure during the remainder of the current financial year.
This is owing to the heavy drain, o n its resources during the winter months.
Beginning next week it is probable that the board will cut do\yn the allocations to the local bodies, Are reduced number of days of /work will probably be invoved, but it not expected that the daily rates of pay will be affected. . , ■ It is st.ated that the reduction 'of the allocations for a start, reach ten per cent.
NO OVERTIME IN ITALY ROME, November 2.
Under the new Italian Unemployment Regulations, the number 0 f the women who are engaged in clerical work in offices must he reduced. These women clerks must be replaced by men. . i The persons in receipt of private means, however small, must be superseded in unemployment relief. A 1 overtime is bari%l. ,
