A SERIOUS OFFENCE.

WELLINGTON, November 1
A jury in : the Supreme Court, at Wellington to-day found Walter Anderson Clifton, aged 49, an engineer, gritLy of : an' indecent assault on two little girls at Miramar- on June 3rd. The jury added a recommendation to leniency.
The Chief Justice asked the foreman of the jury to state the grounds of the recommendation and. a written statement was handed up to His Honour, who ordered a remand till Friday.
BURGLARS BUSY AT METHVEN ASHBURTON, Nov. 2.
■Burglars last night forced an entrance into A. WhiteVj garage at Met liven, and temp,Ted a drapery van containing' £2OO worth of stock, the property of the D.1.C., Christchurch. A fr it shop was also entered, but only a. few bananas were "taken. An attempt to force E. C. Battsons d-rap-erv doors was unsuccessful.
The lorry was. found abandoned near Rakaia, and little, if anything, was missing.
GARAGE BURNED AT HINDS. ASHBURTON, November 2. Fire- eai.'ly thin, morning destroyed B. Burnett’s garage at with two new lorries, the property of Mr •Bntneti, who is also a carrier. The- insurances are not available.
