Purchasers of the records that were made in Sydney recently of the singing of Master Lex Macdonald will nave noticed that on the label under the name of the singer the words “of Dunedin, New Zealand,” appear. It is understood that words were added as the result of a suggestion made by a Dunedin resident who was in Sydney at the time, and who enlisted, the support of the Nevv Zealand Government representative (Mr L. «L Schmitt). Mr Schmitt placed, the suggestion before the directors of the recording company, who allowed the illnovation to' be made. The secretary of the Otago Expansion Le. gue (Mr W. B. Steel) recent.y wrote to Mr Schmitt, thanking him for the action which he had taken. Mr Schmitt has replied stating that he acted upon the suggestion made to him so that the publicity given would encourage Dunedin people particularly to send records overseas as Christmas presents, and so that Dunedin would obtain due publicity as a result. The. death of Mr J. B.; Ingram, of Richmond, removes one of the most highly respected residents of the Neldistrict. Mr Ingram, was in his 73rd year was born in? Aberdeenhife. He came to ' New Zealand in his early twenties, and after a time spent in Dunedin came to Richmond as mounted constable 46 years ago. He resigned from the police force in 1904 and for many years was a member pi the staff of Booth, Macdonald, Ltd., Christchurch. He served on the Rich mond Borough Council and the Nelson Harbour Board, and? wis one of the originators of the Nelson Agricqltural and Pastoral Association. He was also a foundation member .of the Travellers’ Rest- Lodge of Oddfol lovf,, Mr Ingram was r.n adherent of Holy Trinity Church, and had been a vestryman for a long period: H e leaves a widow, one son—Mr J. G. Ingram, a. well-known Nelson business man—and three daughters—Mrs H. Haggett, who as Sister Ingram was lvell known during the war years, of Whakataki, Wairarapa; Mrs J. G. Nugent, of Tokamaru Bay; and Mrs W. L. Hunter of Masterton.
