NATATORIAL ART

being Encouraged in Madrid. LONDON, October 9. ■Since the beginning of the Republican regime in Spain new recreations and entirely new holiday resorts have come into existence. In spite of the summei* heat of Madrid the need of swimming pools was systematically ignored in the past, but in one year since the Republic was established, no fewer than ten swimming baths have been thrown open to the public. Among the new bathing facilities that are now offered in the bed of the River Manza.nares one is certainly unique, its architect ban allowed full, scope for his fancy for maritime effects, and has given the establishment the appearance of a liner with three decks. It has three swimming pools of generous proportions, with filtered and running water which will be heated during the winter months.
