AWARD DISPUTE
FREEZING WORKERS DISPUTE. (ter tress Association — Copyright.) MASTKRTON, October 17. Although a few hundred sheep were available for the Boards this morning at the Wainangwa works, the hands did not put in an appearance. It was hoped to open the season to-day. HA AVER A, October 17. Slaughtermen at Patea works refused to work this morning, and killing is. being done by the permanent hands. 'Only a- few men are likely to be needed at the work for some time yet and no difficulty will be immediately experienced in coping with requirements. MORE MEN OUT ON STRIKE. WELLINGTON, October 17. The secretary of the New Zealand freezing workers’ federation (Mr A. McLeod), admitted to-day that the cessation of work by the slaughtermen was general, but declined to make a statement.
The men ceased work to-day at Petone and Ngahuvanga, but the city council’s abattoirs are still working. The position is causing interest regarding the city’s meat supply, the large proportion of which is killed at Ngahuranga.
NO KILLING AT WAITARA. NEW PLYMOUTH, October 17. The Freezing Workers’ Union at Waitara, acting in concert with the Dominion Union, this morning refused work and killing was suspended. The Company lias ceased the collection of stock meantime, but no other developments have occurred.
DEVELOPMENT IN CASE. AUCKLAND, October-17. A development in the freezing dispute is the call by one compare for labour to carry on the- work. The wage offered is Is KRd and overtime, and work is guaranteed to suitable men for tlie season.
