(Australian Press Association.)

(Received this day at 10.15 a.in.; SYDNEY, October 13.

A deliberate attempt was made to wreck a train near Katoomba overnight. A freight train -struck an obstacle there, and when its driver brought the train to a standstill, he discovered a lifting jack and a damaged crowbar alongside the permanent way. -There was abundant evidence that the jack was used to .raise the line several inches and the crowbar was placed across the rails. The jack was smashed by the weight of th e engine.
