Dr Johannes Winkler’s giant rocket, 6ft. 6in. long, which he expected would achiev e a record altitude and penetrate the stratosphere, prematurely exploded when at a height of 45ft., and the combustion chamber was splintered. Dr Winkler has returned to Berlin to perfect his knowledge of rockets.

The rocket, propelled by liquid air, was, according to Dr Winkler, to make the “preliminary leap on the voyage to th e moon.” It uvas sa’tl to he capable of rising six. miles in lmin 4Qsec. Dr Winkler said it would he the fore, runner of larger rockets, capable of carrying a man to the moon in four days. ____
