UNEMPLOYMENT AID

NO RECOMPENSE HOSPITALS BOARDS’ OUTLAY. (By Teleyrayh—Per Press Association) WMLLINGTGN, June 10. There is no intention on the part of the Government to reimburse the- Hospital Boards lor the expenditure made by them oil unemployment relief, as 111:i v- be inferred, from a statement made by Mr Wal'aei* at the Hospital Boards Association Conference to-day, th> position being that the Boards will not be called upon to give relief to those unemployed who can do any work under Lite new scheme.

This explanation was made by the Minister of KmpioymenL, Air Coates, when Mi Wallace’s remarks were refer r< d to him. He said that it was possible that the country generally might be misled because, firstly, the position, as outlined bv Mr Wallace applied more particularly to Auckland, and, secondly, the classification of the A. B, and C class unemployed was not used generally throughout New Zealand. Mr Coates stated that the unemployed vi’no are classed A are thos e who arc fit to work in the country, an,*, who can go to the camps. Tho B class mom are those who are unable to go to the country for hard work, but who nre able to work in the cities. The G class men are those who are unfit for work at. all, and i'or whom the Unemployment Board has been, on that account, unable to make any .provision. The form of classification has been used more particularly in Auckland.
