WELLINGTON WINS SHIELD. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 25. The final match for the Wilding Shield concluded to-day and resulted in a win for Wellington, which team defeated Canterbury by seven rubbers to five. The day’s play was robbed of a great deal of intenst by reason of the fact that (Angas, Canterbury’s leading player, was overtaken by a serious attack of biliousness. Although not feeling up to the mark, he played through a long doubles match with Barnett, against Wilson and Roussell, but was unable to participate iln the doubles which were left unfinished -on Saturday. The result was that Canterbury were forced to default in this match. As the other matches went, however, this contest would not have affecteu the ultimate results; although it appeared that Canterbury would hartwon the match against Wilson and Roussel!, but for Angas’ illness. N.S.W, BEAT NEW ZEALAND. AUCKLAND, January 25. The Test match between ladies’ teams representing New South Wales and New Zealand, was concluded today, the visitors winning bv eight ruh-bc-iis and 18 sets to 4 rubbers and 4 sets. Aw on the*, firs I day, New Zealand won but one singles and one doubles match, the New South Wales players proving the bettor all round.
