AMUSEMENTS.

£VRRYBODYS PICTURES. Y TO-NIGHT AND TUESDAY. “ALWAYS GOODBYE.” 4* The road to stardom in motion pictures is a long and weary one and it takes years for the fortunate few ever to reach the top. Yet as all traditions t are smashed, so was this one, and the * actress who accomplished the seemingly impossible was Elissa Landi, v. * scintillating English actress who is starred in the Fox picture, “Always Goodbye,” now playing at the Princess Theatre.

It took but two pictures to raise Miss Landi to the very pinnacle of filmdom. Coming to this country to enact the leading role in the Broadway stage production, “A Farewell To Arms,’ Fox Film executives were so impressed with her performance that they offered her a featured role* in the recent screen drama, “Body And Soul.” I characterisation was so real, and so favourably received 'by critics and public alike, that studio executives threw preference to the four winds and starred her in “Always Goodbye,” her second picture.

In “Always Goodbye” Miss Landi impersonates Lola Banning, who has set the pace for Mayfair’s society at the cost of her small fortune. Bankrupt, she realises that she has been leading a life far above her means, yef>. she dreads the thought of sinking down to the middle class. Her tempestuous, fiery nature then leads her into a series of adventures which soon enmesh her in a. network of mystery and suspected crime. How she finally clears her name of all suspicion and wins the right to the one man she really loves, and cannot say “Always Goodbye” to, furnishes one of the most surprising climaxes that have been seen on the screen in many a. week. a

In support of Miss Landi is a most able cast with Lewis Stone and Paul Cavanagh in the featured roles. John Garrick and Lumsden Hare have the other important parts. William Cameron Menzies and Kenneth Mac Kenna co-directed.
