SANDER'S CUP RACE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 18. The first race in the San*'-® Cup contest was sailed on the harbour this afternoon. Jt resulted in a win for the Evan’s Bay boat, the Betty, the present holder of the Cup. The Betty only got a decisive lead alter half of the course had been cov. ered, after a thrilling tussle, with the Avenger, the Canterbury representative, Five boats competed .The ißangi '(Auckland), Bstty (Wellington), Avenger (Canterbury), Heather (Otago), and the Val (Southland).
