A LOVE TRAGEDY

The police had to use tear-gas bombs to enter a flat in a suburbs, and they found Cecil Diaz, described as an Australian sculptor, a French ex-soldier, George Martin, 35, both dead, and Mademoiselle Navarro n seriously wounded. Novarron stated that Martin was her lover and was jealous of Diaz’s purely friendly visits. Martin invited Diaz to dinner and in the middle of the meal, accused Diaz. A fight began and Martin seized a German bayonet from a wall and stabbed Diaz seven times and he shot her in the leg. She was wounded and helpless. Throughout the night she heard Diaz groaning in his dying agony. When the police came in the morning Martin held them at bay for three hours till they brought tear-gas. He then shot himself dead.
