ST MARY’S CLUB

SCOCESISFUL BANQUET HELD. A fitting conclusion to a successful year was observed by the St. Mary’is Debating Club last evening when tlie annual banquet was held. The President (Mr J. Stopforth) presided over a good attendance of members and representatives from Greymouth.

Several toasts were honoured, the list! being as .follows: —“The ‘Pope and the King, the King and the Pope,” St. Mary’s Club”, proposed by Mr M. Kelly (Greymouth), and responded to by Mr B. Kempton; “The Spiritual Director”, proposed by Mr J. Stopforth, and responded to by Mr G. AVormington; “The Old Boys”, proposed by Mr J. HrJtchison, and responded to by Messrs H. Kortegast, T. Daly, G. Wormington and C. Sanders; “St. Columba Club”, proposed by Mr J. Stopforth, responded to by Mr M. Kelly; “The Club’s Benefactors,” proposed by Air B. Kempton, and responded to by Messrs J. and J. Stuart and A. Chapman; “The President”, proposed by Air J. Stuait; “The Successful Team”, proposed by Air C. Schroder; “The Ladies,” proposed by Air D. Diedrichs; “The Junior Members”, proposed by Air Stopforth, and responded to by Messrs Schroder and Stuart. Atusic and elocutionary items were contributed by ATessrs Kellv, Sanders, Stickles, .J- Stuart- and A. Chapman. A a mark of appreciation of his services to the Club, .the president, on Ivhalf of the members, presented Mr AVormington with a L-oew-e pipe.
