MYSTERY EXPLAINED

GLADSTONE FABRIC FIND

A WRAPPING FOR WIRE ROPE !

(By Telegraph —Per Press Association)

WELLINGTON, July 17. The theory of Flying Officer J. H. N. Tveirh, regarding the piece of aeroplane fabric that was found at Gladstone •Siding, near ■Grey-mouth, is that it '.s not a portion of the iHood-Moncrieff monoplane, the Aotea Roa, but is a portion of wrapping for wire ropes. This is apparently the correct theory. Shortly after the war, Messrs Allen, Whyte and Company, of England, obtained a quantity of this aeroplane fabric from the military stores, and have used it for the inside wrapping for their wire ropes ever .since.

Furthermore-Messrs;: Allen, White and ■Company’s New . Zealand agents have sent a number of coils of w:ie rope, to Gladstone Siding,, and the material in which these ropes were wrapped- is y * identical with that wh’cli, it was suggested. had come from the ■ missing f. aeroplane.
