The unemployed registrations in, New Zealand tor the week ended' July 13th constituted a new record. The total number of registrations at Labour Bureaux was 47,203, as compared with 46,359 in the previous week, an increase of 881. In an accompanying statement, the ,Labour Minister, Mr Smith, says : The apparent increase in the unemployed is 884. The number of men who qualified under the. Number Five Schema, and were placed..in, work totalled 33,557. There were 4,500 engaged under the 4A Scheme,' and ,70U under the 48. If the present rate of expenditure and receipts continue, the deficiency at the end of next March would be £31,000. : The . following resolution, ’.submitted by the general committee, was considered. . .That the Committee recommends the Hospital Board to agree to a scheme being put forward to the Government as a matter for urgent attention with the object of ra.sing money to meet the probable hospital deficiency; (2) Motor taxation; or both; or any other scheme considered advisable, after consultation with the 'Prime Minister and khe Minister ol Health, by the sub-committee.
