A report is current that Mr Lang eonteplates another quarrel with the Upper House, lie is known to be preparing a measure reducing the higher salaries of public officers to £SOO hi axmum. Members- of the Upper House have already described the measure as impossible. They will have uo alternative but.to throw it out, as they are powerless to amend it. ANOTHER VISION. The “Herald” says: “One of the measures which the Government intends to bring down as a challenge to the Legislative Council, is an amended emergency taxation' scheme, which provides for a tax of 2s fid or 3s in the £ on incomes of £SOO a year and over.
The people of New South Wales are anxiously awaiting the Dominions’ Office ruling in regard to the Governor’s refusal to allow the Lang Government to swamp the Legislative Council with Labour appointees. Tins concensus of opinion is, according to the Press, that the Dominion Office will decline to interfere. Some of Mr Lang’s Ministers . share this view, which is strengthened by a private cablegram received from the AgentGeneral, Mr Willis.
