SITE FOR MATERNITY HOSPITAL

DUNEDIN, October 23. After nearly twelve months of consideration and reconsideration by the Otago Hospital Board, the University Council and officials of the Department o f Health, a site in London Street was finally decided on as the most suitable location for Dunedin’s new maternity hospital by a combined conference of the Otago Hospital Board and the University Council which was held to-night. There has been considerable discussion between the two bodies concerned as to whether the site chosen or a site in Cumberland Street adjacent to .the hospital would lie the more suitable; and a committee was set up to go into the matter and report. This report, re s commending the Cumberland Street site, was submitted to the conference this evening ; but, after a lengthy discussion during which the advantages and disadvantages of both locations were fully discussed, a motion for its adoption was defeated and the London Street site was decided on.
