, ,NEWS OF PESHAWAR. [United Press Association.—By Electric , Telegraph—Copyright]. DELHI, August 12. . Despite the issue of optimistic comimuniques, the situation in Peshawar is not too good. Tlie telegraphic and railways services are disorganised. All of the city 'cantonment gates in Peshawar have been closed. The Afridi tribesmen are now deceiving the Royal Air Force aeroplanes by placing their turbans and white robes on the ground, and rushing for shelter when the planes approach to bomb them.
Some of the Afridis who were hidden in an orchard on the outskirts of Peshawar ambushed a patrol of seventeen of the Poona Horse. Several of the latter were killed and injured, and some of the raiders were also killed. It is reported that a party of tribesmen. intended to blow up the bridge which is an important link between frontier and the rest of India.
