FOOTBALL

Football games on Saturday were played under excellent weather conditions, and there was a fair attendance on Cass Square where one junior game and two senior games took place. In the junior game Excelsiors defeated Kiwis by 6 to 3, while in the- senior games Excelsiors defeated Brunner by 20 to 7, and United and Rivals played a drawn game 11 points each.

EXCELSIORS V. KIWI. This junior game took place on Cass Square and was well contested throughout, Excelsiors winning by 6 points (a try by Richards and a penalty goal by Schroder),-, to 3 points (a try by Heinz). f is UNITED V. RIVALS. This game played on Cas Square resulted in a draw 11 points each. Rivals were without tlie services of Houston and Denhehy. The game was an even one and many opportunities to score were lost, Rivals suffering most-in this connection, especially in tlie- second half when some fine chances were badly mulled. In the early stages Pfahlert scored a good try which Webster converted and soon after Schist scored. Then United let Jamieson away and he scored under the posts for Kennedy to convert. Soon, after Pfahlert again scored but the kick at goal failed. Soon after Saunders..kicked a penalty goal for United and tile score at half time wa* 11 to 8 in Rivals favour. In the -second half the game was in favour of Rivals but United added a try by. Saunders and though Rivals did most of the attacking were unable to add to their score and the game ended in a draw 11 points each. Mr Cut bush was referee. EXCELSIORS V. BRUNNER. Brunner did not put in a full team, and both sides played some juniors. Excelsiors had all the best of the play and won by 20 to 7. Two potted goals were included, one by Staines and one by Guy. The other score for Brunner was a penalty by Mclntosh. For Etxcelsiors Martyn, Staines and Freitas scored tries, the former converting two and kicking a penalty goal, and a potted goal by Staines. . Mr Mora was referee. BLAKETOWN V. COBDEN. At G-reymouth, Blaketown defeated Cobden by 18 to 12. For Blaketown Negri (2) and Lemin (2) scored tries and Dunshen, kicked two penalty goals. For Cobden Sexton and Mead scored tries and King kicked two penalty goals. UNITED, CHAMPIONS.
