A TRAIN ACCIDENT. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association. HAWERA, August 11. On arrival here of , the excursion train yesterday morning, returning from, the ‘fourth Rugby Test, E. J. Tippett, a Hawern passenger informed the police that lie seen a man fall from the platform of one of the rear carriages in a tunnel just after the train left Wellington on Saturday night. The man’s body struck the side of the tunnel and then rolled from view. The guard was informed immediately, and the train stopped at Ngaio. . Four others including two women were on the opposite platform hut did not see the happening as their view was obscured by. Tippett, who was crossing the gangway.
FOUND BEAD. HAMILTON, Aug. 11. Daniel McKeowen, a middle-aged farmer, was found dead on his farm at Ngaruawahia this morning with a shot. gun beside him. The'discovery was made by Dr G. B. Isdale of Ngaijua.wa.hia, when visiting the deceased, who had suffered from ill health lately and was depressed as a result. McKeowen was born' in the district and had lived there all his life. ... He was married, but has no children. DROWNING FATALITY. WA'IROA, Aug. 11. Sidney Williams was drowned this morning in the Ruakituri river above Ter in gn Falls while crossing on a wire His body is unrecovered.
THIEVES HAUL. CHRISTCHURCH, August 11. Thieves on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning, entered the office of the Liberty Theatre in Cathedral Square and stole £T26, the takings for the day, from a safe, using a key that had been inadvertently left on a desk. WHARF BOYCOTT. DUNEDIN, Aug. 11. Acting under instructions from headquarters, the waterside workers have definitely refused to handle cargo worked by the new electric luffing cranes, erected riy the Harbour Board on Victoria Wharf. This refusal comes suddenly as when the Union recently asked that its memberfe be employed as crane drivers, there was no hint of a boycott.
The Board was of the opinion that its plant should be worked only by its own servants. The boycott means that nlant costing over ten thousand sterling stands idle, pending a settlement.
