THE WHEAT POSITION,

The Washington Department of Agriculture survey, indicates that, favoured by a decline of approximately forty million bushels the visible supply since peak last October, an improvement in wheat prices from the re. cut market decline appears likely in the ne.ri few weeks, 'i lie total of visible supply is still larger thy 37 million bushels than in 1929. The prices for wheat would remain on, the average for January due to the decline in market prices. The price t-liat month averaged 107.5 cents. The market prices declined from 126 to 118 cents during the month. ■ The world wheat situation is reported unchanged, with a foreign demand or American .wheat remaining ‘'‘disappointingly weak.” No attempt lias been made to forecast the 1930 ilicnt crop, but “the condition of the winter sown crop must be watched closely fir the remainder of the season.”
A BOXING BOUT,
NEW YORK, Feb. 16
The Cincinatti National Boxing Association announced a match for the heavyweight title has been arranged between Pesek nild T.ondos. The details are not yet fixed.
CANADIAN POLITICS. OTTAWA, Feb. 15,
After accepting, the first Canadian woman Senator, Mrs Norman F. Wilson, on reconsideration has declined, declaring her first duty is to her homo.
As a result of a Cabinet split, the Government lias dropped the proposal to ban all exportations of liquor to United States.
Several leading churches have ’been demanding a refusal of Customs clearance to liquor laden vessels destined for United States. E. D. Euter (Minister of National Revenue), adopts the attitude that Canada should not in any way aid United States in the enforcement of prohibition.
TENNIS STATUS. NEW YORK, Feb. 15
A message from St. Louis states Tilden has been given a national ranking of number one for the tenth consecutive year by the United States Lawn Tennis; Association. To-day nine others are in the following order:—Huntre, Doig, Lott, Van Ryu, Frederick Mercur, Allison, Coen, Beii and .Margin. Helen Wills Moody is No 1 in the women’s singles. Doeg and Lott are No. 1 in the men’s doubles.
The Association went on to record the favouring of open touranments between amateurs And professionals and awarded the first tournament to the. Germination Clu'b, holding a tournament dependent on the approval of the International Federation in March.
