BOOM IN FLYING. VERY CHEAP PLANES COMING. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). LONDON, Oct. 1. The Prince of Wales’ purchase of an . aeroplane and the Prime Minister, Mr MacDonald’s use of aeroplanes, has had an immensely stimulating effect bn private flying in England. There arc scores of new pupils at all of the Aeroplane Cubs. Several big motor car car manufacturers are expected to engage in the mass production of single and donblo-seater machines, costing from £250 to £3OO apiece. AIR RACE. SIXTEEN ’PLANES ARRIVE. SYDNEY, October 3. A Codnna message states sixteen ’planes in the air race arrived, but Leggatt in a Curliss Victor has withdrawn owing to engine trouble. Pilot Penny met with a mishap at the first stage to Kimba, coining down in the desert. He managed, however, to reach Kimba. Following are the fastest actual flying times from Sydney to Coduna, 1250 miles: Miller, D.H. 9, 12 hours, 33 minutes. . De Haviland Moth 12 hours, 54 minutes. Heath D.H; 50, 13 hours, 7 minutes. Pratt, Moth, 13 hours, 50 minutes. . GERMAN FLYING BOAT. A HUGE AFFAIR, (Received this day at 9.25 a.m.) - ; LONDON, October 2. The “ Daily News.” Berlin correspondent states'the gift flying boat Box will carry 135 people in the speed and reliability trials at Lake Constance to-mor-row. She has already proved a capacity to rise within a minute and attain a speed o>f nearly 150 miles per hour. The finishing touches are being put on ton passenger compartments, which include men’s and women’s cabins, holding ten each. The dining and drawing rooms are handsomely fitted up. A bar adjoins the smoking room in the bows.
