CHRISTCHURCH, July 29

An incendiarist last night made an attempt to set fire to a tank at the oasis petrol station in Liverpool street. To set a train to the tank the man had set a length of rubber tubing soaked' in petrol. A son of the proprietor was returning to get a bicycle and discovered the burning tube, when the flame had travelled to within ,a short distance of the tank and was able to prevent a blaze.
