NEW CONFIDENCE TRICK
FARMER’S FEAR OF CANCER. VANCOUVER, April 4. The newest confidence game lias been revealed here with the complaint of J. do Wolfe, a Burnaby farmer, that he had been defrauded of 687 dollars by two men, who, posing as eye specialists, performed a “fake” eye operation upon him. De Wolfe told the police that lie had boon informed by two strangers of professional appearance,' that lie was suffering from cancer and that only an immediate, though not dangerous, operation, would save him from going blind in two weeks. He agreed to an operation, and two days’ later was told that the cancer had been entirely removed and that he would have no further trouble. When he tendered a cheque he was induced to go to the hank and get the cash instead. This he handed over, and the police are still looking for the swindlers/ Police physicians found nothing whatever the matter with de Wolfe’s eyes.
