Air A 1 cGillian, Free State Almister of External Affaris, announced that the Dail F.ireann proposed to establish not merely trade representation, hut Kmbasies at Paris and Berlin. 3heir policy was to maintain a position ol co-equality, expressed at the last Imperial Conference, and get rid ol forms which in some Dominions did not correspond with that expression. The Alinister of Defence, when questioned whether Free Slate officers were attending the Imperial Conference College, and studying strategy for the defence of the Empire, with the result that the Free State would he committed to the defence of the Empire, replied in the negative.

A report has been issued by-the New Health' Society, affirming unequivocally the'dietetic value of canned foods and dismissal of all the old hogejs.
It says: Canned and bottled limits have the full value of fresh fruits, and have a maximum of cellulose acids and salts. . .
The Committee is equally eulogistic of canned meats, and quotes the evi deuce of leading English and Ameiiean scientists in support of its conclusions.

A committee has been formed ol Afessrs Newton Aloore, chairman of I he C.A.B. Canpion, and vice-chairman including Lords Lnmington. Glcndyne. Sirs Thomas Robinson and Frederick Young, and the Commoner 4. HThomas, with a view to the erection of n memorial at the grave of the laic Andrew Fisher as a tribute to bis great and invaluable services to Australia and the Empire.

EFFECT ON NEWSPAPERS

Sensational fails in the circulation figures of many lending newspapers are anticipated as the result oi the enforced suspensions of football competitions. The most popular lonu ol competition was that requiring the reader to forecast correctly 2-1 results out o! forty-four printed on the coupon. Despite the tremendous odds, the first prize of £20.000 jointly offered by three newspapers, has -thrice been von outright. Many smaller piizos. amounting to £IO,OOO weekly lm\e boon distributed.
The principal argument influencing the court was that many individuals paid a- penny for a coupon, not.a newspaper, ‘therefore it was gambling.
