CRICKET.
THE "IF” TEAM. Australian Press Assn.—United Service 'Deceived this dav at 9.3 C a.m.) LONDON. August 9. The newspaper “ Field ” says there seems to lie a general agreement that Maivlebone has done very well in the choice of a team, blit the plain lact is it is an “if ” team. If Hobbs does not break down, in the absence of any other first wicket partner to Sutcliffe, it will not matter., If Larwood keeps sound he will be the very man to open with Tate. If there are faster wickets in Australia, and Tate regains the skill he lost there, he may once again be the only great howler of the world. If Freeman succeeds in his third tour after failing in the others, it will he a marvel. If Mead with a handicap of age and weight- can survive fielding for two or three days in intense heat, untiring, he will - be the very man for number 4. If all these things happen or even several, we will win the tests. If not we may have to wait till we can <h> without so many “ ifs.”
